2021 Polestar 1 Special Edition gives us the gold shoulder

This is the 2021 Polestar 1 Special Edition, announced at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show.

Its main feature is its striking matte gold paint, slathered liberally on the coupe's carbon-fiber body panels.

Just 25 examples of this Special Edition model will be built, and it'll be first come, first served globally, meaning all 25 could come to the US, or none may make it over.

The interior features matching gold stitching and seat belts.

Volvo's premium division is seriously giving us the gold shoulder here.

"Thor's Hammer" daytime running lights? Check.

The Polestar 1 starts at $156,600 (including delivery), but the Special Edition will cost more -- likely $5,000 for the special paint.

Built in China, the Polestar 1's production run is to be limited to just 1,500 units worldwide.

The coupe features 609 horsepower and the longest electric driving range of any plug-in hybrid sold in the US (52 miles).
