Elon Musk vows to start company that digs tunnels under traffic

Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.

Traffic can have a numbing effect.

For Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, however, it might be inspiring. Well, besides being numbing.

There he was on Saturday considering the frustrations of traffic and, almost immediately, finding a potential solution.

In the very early hours, Musk took to his Twitter account to bemoan: "Traffic is driving me nuts. Am going to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging..."

This sounds like the musing of a man who's stuck in traffic at that moment. But at 4:05 a.m.?

Just over an hour later, there was more: "It shall be called 'The Boring Company.'" It shall? But there's already a Boring Company, in Las Vegas.

Undeterred, he continued, "Boring, it's what we do."

Musk waited a couple of hours for some to scoff and at least to wonder what meeting Donald Trump may have done to his inner workings.

Then, at 7:17 a.m. came this tweet: "I am actually going to do this."

Naturally, I contacted Musk, Tesla and SpaceX to ask, well, whether he's actually going to do this. I will update, should I actually hear.

One suspects there might be one or two regulatory and scientific problems with this idea, however uplifting it might originally seem.

Then again, Musk is the man behind the Hyperloop and is used to battling prevailing winds, tides and notions. He's also a man who's now an adviser to the well-known constructionist who's now our unpresidented president-elect.

Might this Boring idea be part of our new American infrastructure program?

Of course, one mutters to oneself, he's just having a little fun. He works hard. He should have fun.

But then my eyes fell upon his updated Twitter bio: "Tesla, SpaceX, Tunnels (yes, tunnels) & OpenAI."

Yes, he even put tunnels before AI.
