Watch Chevrolet's COPO Camaro disappear in wheelies and tire smoke

This is one seriously impressive factory drag racer.

Cars are Andrew's jam, as is strawberry. After spending years as a regular ol' car fanatic, he started working his way through the echelons of the automotive industry, starting out as social-media director of a small European-focused garage outside of Chicago. From there, he moved to the editorial side, penning several written features in Total 911 Magazine before becoming a full-time auto writer, first for a local Chicago outlet and then for CNET Cars.

The COPO Camaro is not your average pony car. Designed to run in the National Hot Rod Association's Stock and Super Stock Eliminator classes, the car is for drag racing and drag racing only. Chevrolet announced one based off the new sixth-generation body back in November, and we finally have some video of its capabilities.

By capabilities, we mean the proclivity this car has for wheelies. Its testing is a perfect storm of smoke, noise and a nose pointing to the skies. The COPO in the video packs Chevrolet's 7.0-liter, eight-cylinder engine (two others are on offer) and a three-speed Turbo 400 automatic, and the camera's microphone is clearly having a hard time processing that cacophony.

Chevrolet's only building 69 of these solid-rear-axle drag monsters for the 2016 model year, so if you want one, you're going to have to act quicker than the car itself.
