Microsoft Office v.x 10.1.3 cannot find default directory

CNET staff

Several readers report that Microsoft's recently released Offive v.X 10.1.3 updater delivers the error messsage ""the default location for this install can't be found" when users attempt an install. Kyle Johnson writes:

"When I tried to install the Office X 10.1.3 update I got a message saying that the default location couldn't be found. Office X was right in my Applications directory where I installed it. [...] I went ahead and downloaded the 10.1.2 Office X update and ran it (ran it again). It behaved as if I hadn't installed it. Then I ran the 10.1.3 Office X update and it worked."

So it appears the solution for those experiencing this problem may be to re-run the previous 10.1.2 updater. A message on Microsoft's Web site notes "Before you install Microsoft Office v. X 10.1.3 Update, you must first install Microsoft Office v. X 10.1.2 Update ."
