Mark Hamill, Star Wars fans demand Hollywood star for Carrie Fisher
#AStarForCarrie trends on Twitter as actor Mark Hamill suggests Donald Trump's star be replaced with one for his fellow Star Wars actor.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame could be strong with the Force, if Star Wars actor Mark Hamill has his way.
Hamill suggested in a tweet on Wednesday that President Donald Trump be replaced with one for his fellow Star Wars actor and friend Carrie Fisher.
"Good riddance! (and I know just who should replace him....) #AStarForCarrie," Hamill tweeted. He links to a 2018 article that reveals the West Hollywood City Council voted for removal of Trump's star, which he received in 2007 for his work as producer of the Miss Universe pageant.
Hamill's hashtag #AStarForCarrie is currently trending with fans posting their own pleas for Fisher to get her own star.
"How does Carrie Fisher NOT already have a star on the HWOF?" fan Bill Sienkiewicz tweeted.
"Carrie Fisher helped MAKE STARS FAMOUS. Give her a star, ASAP," Fan Brian Lynch tweeted.
A petition started in 2016 called for Trump's star to be removed altogether. It currently has more than 122,156 signatures as of Wednesday.
Fisher died in 2016 after she finished filming her role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but will reunite with Hamill on screen posthumously via unseen footage in the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker film.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens worldwide in theaters on Dec. 20, 2019.
