Universal Monsters returning from beyond the grave
Universal Studios is gearing up to relaunch its beloved classic monsters, including Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, and the mummy in an interconnected universe.
Some of Universal Studios' most popular films in recent decades include the Bourne films, the Fast and the Furious franchise and "Jurassic Park", but the studio really made its name in the 1930s and 40s -- with what have now become classic monster movies.
Boris Karloff as Frankenstein and The Mummy, Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Lon Chaney as the Wolfman -- these are the creatures that formed the backbone of Universal Horror for two decades.
It's those golden years that are set for a revival, with Universal gearing up to relaunch its most popular monsters in a series of films in a cohesive, interconnected universe, Deadline has reported.
Universal has nominated Chris Morgan, writer and producer of The Fast and the Furious films, and Alex Kurtzman, writer of "Star Trek Into Darkness" and producer of "Ender's Game" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", to spearhead the project.
Starting with a relaunch of "The Mummy" in April 2016, the new series of films will also see the revival of Dracula, Van Helsing and The Wolfman -- hopefully culminating in an Avengers-style film starring all of them.
