'Stranger Things' adds a hobbit and more to its cast
"Lord of the Rings" actor Sean Astin and "Aliens" actor Paul Reiser will show up in season 2 of the Netflix retro horror TV show.
New actors have joined the cast of "Stranger Things," making season 2 even more fun to speculate about.
Actor Sean Astin ("Lord of the Rings" trilogy) will play Bob Newby, a "kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack," Entertainment Weekly reported Monday.
It will be interesting to see what electronic gizmos the characters piece together next season thanks to having a friend at RadioShack.
On the bad guy side, actor Paul Reiser ("Mad About You," "Aliens") will play Dr. Owens, a "high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a 'clean-up' assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year."
Reiser, best known for his comedic roles, was also brilliant as the bad guy who played both sides in the original "Aliens." He could channel that same sociopathy as the new big-wig at the Department of Energy.
Paul Reiser played the corrupt Carter Burke in "Aliens," back in 1986.
The third new cast member is actress Linnea Berthelsen as Roman, an "emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab."
Previously announced in October, actress Sadie Sink has been cast in the role of Max, a tough, confident girl who is a bit of a tomboy. She has a complicated history and is generally suspicious of those around her.
Actor Dacre Montgomery has also been cast in the new role of Billy, Max's hyper-confident, older step-brother. He masters drinking games and drives a black Camaro. Under his apparent charisma is a violent and unpredictable nature.
"Stranger Things" will return with nine new episodes on Netflix in 2017.
